The verdict

For nearly thirty years, Skyline has had the simplest advanced-academics pitch on the Eastside: it is the IB school. It has run open-access International Baccalaureate (IB) since it opened in 1997, with no gatekeeping and one coherent advanced track. That pitch is now changing under your feet. Starting in 2026-27 the school adds ten Advanced Placement (AP) courses, a direct response to families who wanted à-la-carte college credit without the International Baccalaureate's two-year diploma commitments. The shift has already stirred faculty worry about whether one building can run both programs well.

So the question a touring family should hold is not "is Skyline good." A 97.9% four-year graduation rate and a 600-member chapter of DECA (the business and marketing competition club) settle that. The question is "which Skyline am I enrolling into?" A student who wants a unified, essay-heavy diploma program will find the established machine. A student who wants to cherry-pick AP Calculus BC and AP Lit will be an early adopter of a lineup the school has never taught before. Either way, the sheer scale of the place rewards kids who go find their niche and can swallow kids who wait to be found.
