Beginning 2025-26 the district shifted K-5 services to Classroom-Based Services (CBS) delivered by general-ed teachers in students' neighborhood schools, replacing the former K5HC weekly 30-minute pull-outs. Full-Time Quest (elementary self-contained) and Middle School Quest continue without service-model changes. More than one in three students at Horace Mann (36.8%) carries a formal Highly Capable designation, and as of September 2025 the district no longer pulls those students out for separate gifted instruction. Lake Washington School District (LWSD) discontinued its weekly Quest pull-out model and moved elementary highly capable service into the regular classroom. The trade: it's a designated walking school, transfer families carry all transportation, and the after-school scene runs on the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) and parent pickup, not district buses.
