O'Dea sells a bargain no other regional school offers. Tuition is $24,035 for 2026-27, roughly half the elite-independent sticker, for a boys-only "Brotherhood" with uniforms on Mass days and 25 service hours a year, where football and basketball championships are the public face and nearly half the student body is on aid. What it deliberately does not sell is academic-tournament prestige. Washington's National Merit Semifinalist lists for the last three classes contain zero O'Dea names (Compass Prep state lists), the school is trading Advanced Placement (AP) courses for Seattle University dual credit, and no state-level debate, math, or science-bowl results turned up in this research. Families chasing a test-score arms race should read that as disqualifying. Families with a son who needs structure, accountability, and a 100% graduation-rate track to a four-year college, at a price subsidized for 48% of his classmates, should read it as the point. The non-negotiables: four years of Theology and mandatory religious life for every student, Catholic or not (47% aren't), and a landlocked urban campus whose athletes bus to city parks for practice.
