The verdict

Open Window is the Eastside's only independent K-8 built entirely around one admission rule: no child gets in, or even attends the required visit day, without a cognitive evaluation from a licensed psychologist, submitted directly to admissions. That gate is the product. Because every classmate has already cleared it, the school can start math a grade ahead in kindergarten, staff lower-school rooms with two teachers, and grade middle schoolers purely on demonstrated mastery rather than homework volume. The hard question isn't whether the model works; the competition record below suggests it does. It's whether the model is worth $42,880 to $48,070 a year (2026-27) when public districts run a free version of the same core idea. Tuition buys intensity the free path doesn't offer: roughly 40 kids per grade, counselors embedded for the emotional volatility that often travels with high IQ, mandatory travel designed to build independence, and a concierge placement operation into selective high schools.
