Catholic (Jesuit) · coeducational · grades 9–12 · 800 students · Capitol Hill, Seattle
Seattle Prep needs little introduction: 135 years on Capitol Hill, the Jesuit name, the mock trial trophies. The useful question is what its $30,175 base tuition (2026–27) actually buys. Against Lakeside's $52,000 for the same 2026–27 year, Prep runs about 58 cents on the dollar while reporting a 100% four-year-college acceptance rate. Against diocesan Bishop Blanchet or Kennedy Catholic it is the premium choice, and every family pays one rate, with no parishioner discount.
What the lower price does not buy is flexibility. For their first three years, all students sit in Collegio, an integrated English-history-theology block, with Advanced Placement (AP) humanities unavailable until senior year. Four years of theology, all-school Mass, an escalating direct-service requirement, and a same-day manual-labor discipline system called JUG apply to everyone, Catholic or not. Families who want exactly that structure get an unusually coherent school for the money, and non-Catholic families demonstrably seek it out. AP-maximizers and the religion-averse should treat the discount as a warning label, not a reason to apply.
