St. Luke is attempting an unusual hybrid, and enrollment says it's working. This is a doctrinally orthodox parish school under the Archdiocese of Seattle that became, in February 2021, the first Catholic school on the West Coast authorized to run both the International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. The student body grew 21% between 2021-22 and 383 students in 2024-25, and for the 2026-27 cycle the school is taking applications only for preschool through second grade. Grades three through eight are full and waitlisted. The catch is that the hybrid's two halves answer to different authorities. In May 2024 the parish declined to renew a well-liked kindergarten teacher's contract over her same-sex marriage, triggering a 1,100-signature petition and organized parent protests. Families shopping for the inquiry-based academics need to price the whole institution: mandatory theology, Mass, and daily prayer for every student, a fundraising-and-volunteering stack on top of tuition, and a pricing ladder in which non-parishioners pay roughly 39% more across three children. Choose it for the IB-plus-Catholic combination, not despite the Catholic part. The school has shown exactly where its lines are.
