Sunny Hills is a very good elementary school with two pieces of fine print that matter more than its reputation. First, the scores have been drifting: combined English language arts (ELA) and math proficiency slipped from an 82.9% three-year average to 80.5% in 2024-25, with ELA falling about 3.2 points a year. That is a real but modest decline from a high base, and the school is visibly managing it with a new literacy curriculum and unusually specific published improvement targets. Second, and easy to miss: your address inside the Sunny Hills boundary decides your child's entire secondary path. Graduates split by parcel between Pine Lake Middle School, which leads to Skyline High, and Pacific Cascade Middle School, which leads to Issaquah High. Families comparing houses a few blocks apart are effectively choosing between two different K-12 pipelines.
The strengths are the classic Sammamish package done well: a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that has hit 100% membership, free schoolwide math enrichment with a national top scorer to show for it, veteran teachers, and results that hold up even against demographically similar schools. Look closest if you depend on after-school programs. The district runs no activity buses at the elementary level, so every club pickup is on you.
