On paper Sunrise looks like Northshore's strongest elementary: 91% of students meeting standard, peer rankings near the top of the state, and an advanced chess club coached by a National Chess Master. One number explains almost all of it: 58.8% of the building is formally identified highly capable, because for years the district bused dual-qualified Elementary Advanced Program (EAP) students here from across Northshore. That era is ending. The district is dismantling its centralized EAP hubs in favor of neighborhood-based service, and Sunrise is caught mid-transition. Grades 2–4 now run an integrated cluster model, the current 5th grade is the last self-contained cohort, enrollment has thinned to 323, and the teaching staff contracted from 31 to 19 in three years. Boundary families are getting a strong, small school whose published scores describe a student body that is actively changing shape. Families hoping to route in from outside the boundary should understand that the destination those scores describe is being retired grade by grade.
