Middle and high school students move through advanced classes as a cohort within their neighborhood school. You likely already know Interlake's reputation. It's one of the strongest math-and-science schools in the state and, depending on who you ask, a pressure cooker. Both halves are true, but the fine print matters more than the reputation.
The structural fact behind everything: Interlake is two schools sharing a building. One is the Bellevue district's Advanced Learning (AL) hub, a cohort of nearly 600 highly capable students who mostly arrive from Odle Middle School. They take the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in 10th and 11th grade, and they produced more National Merit Semifinalists in 2026 than any school in Washington, public or private. The other is a solid neighborhood high school drawing from Highland Middle School, with outcomes well above peer schools but not the state-leading numbers the trophy case suggests. If your child is in the Advanced Learning pipeline, the peer depth here is probably unmatched in the Pacific Northwest. If they're not, evaluate the general-education track on its own merits, starting with whether the IB-centric schedule leaves enough advanced electives for students outside the cohort.
