The verdict

The International Community School (ICS) is the easy part of your decision; the seat is the hard part. Academically, this small humanities-and-international-studies magnet performs at the top of the state, with proficiency rates in the 90s, on-time graduation at or near 100%, and a National Merit Semifinalist rate (6.5% of the last two classes) that schools ten times its size can't touch. But no address gets you in. Entry is a district lottery drawn in 5th grade, and a policy change effective 2026-27 quietly resets the board for anyone hoping to enter at 9th grade. The families this school fits want a seven-year cohort, integrated humanities blocks, and a community that expects 30 volunteer hours a year, and they can live without school sports, lockers, or elective breadth. If your child's identity runs through athletics or à-la-carte course shopping, the trade-offs are structural, not incidental.

That is the free excerpt. The full dossier is the rest of the file: how these outcomes hold up in context, how deep the advanced-peer group actually runs, how families get in (and who doesn't), culture signals from handbooks and climate surveys, logistics, neighborhood context, the open questions to ask on your tour, and every citation, so you can check our work.
